The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) is developing an accreditation for Ecological Clerk of Works and Bear Environmental has been recognised as being involved as part of an Advisory Group of ecological consultants and contractors to deliver the accreditation.
‘A competent ECoW can effectively oversee the management of the risks on construction sites associated with managing biodiversity and can help to ensure a smooth and cost-efficient construction process. Conversely an incompetent ECoW can inadvertently cause costly delays, frustration and exposure to risk of prosecution.’
Appropriately trained and qualified ECoWs are therefore an essential part of the development process and as stated by CIEEM there is a need to raise the profile of the role, its valuable contribution to the successful construction process and respect for the people who perform it.
Mike Stopa, Director of Environmental Services, Bear Environmental Ltd, says: “We have been involved with the Advisory Group since 2017. It has been a privilege to have been able to contribute towards the development of such a nationally important qualification. Once again this is testament to the reputation, we are gaining for being able to provide an exceptional standard of ECoW work and we are looking forward to continuing our work with CIEEM’’.
