East West Rail, ECoW, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire
East West Rail (EWR) is a major development to establish a strategic railway connecting East Anglia with Central, Southern and Western England. The project plans to build (and rebuild) new and existing lines linking Oxford and Cambridge via Bicester, Milton Keynes (at Bletchley) and Bedford, largely using the track bed of the former Varsity Line. Bear Environmental worked on the Western Section Phase 2 from Oxford to Bedford on existing lines.
Bear Environmental were employed to undertake a Principal Ecological Clerk of Works role. This role was a mix of site based presence and project management of ecological contractors. A high attention to detail and the ability to react to site conditions with extensive bat, barn owl and great crested newt works under licence conditions were required.
